2 GPs in a Pod – Dr Zoe Williams – Physical Activity Champion and TV Doc
I’ve been looking through some older podcasts and came across this gem this week.
With #weareundefeatable campaign launching I thought this was a great episode to raise awareness of how as GPs, and other health care professionals, we can discuss physical activity with patients.
The guest of this episode is @drzoewilliams. She so clearly describes how powerful giving patients permission to exercise can be. She provides information on some toolkits GPs can use to demonstrate what activities patients with chronic conditions can consider.
They also discuss the Active 10 app, which I reviewed as part of my Favourite Health and Wellness apps – Take 2 – available on the blog section of my website if you want to read the post.
Zoe talks about the 5 ‘As’ of behaviour change:
They move on and talk about how GPs themselves can reduce their sedentary behaviour for our own health and well-being in our role where we are inherently sitting down for a large proportion of the day. These can be so simple and easy, such as one thing I do, go and get your patients from the waiting room instead of pressing the buzzer.
They also talk about @publichealthengland clinical champions of physical activity. I’ve had a session with one as part of a GP study day for my area, Zoe provides details for anyone interested in having someone visit their area too.
Whilst not the most recent podcast I think it’s extremely relevant and definitely worth a listen.
